| Class Descriptions Kids Yoga - Come join the fun as we play, stretch, laugh and sing. This is a creative approach to yoga that is beneficial for children's bodies, minds, and spirits. Based on the techniques taught in Radiant Child Yoga, we use animated poses and basic stretching exercises to promote strength, flexibility, coordination and body awareness. Breathing and visualization techniques teach kids how to focus, relax and develop self-control. Kids will improve concentration, stimulate their imagination and release energy in a fun, safe environment. The interactive games and animated postures will help them learn about animals, nature and basic anatomy. Gentle - A combination of traditional Hatha yoga alignments and modifications of poses accesible to everybody. Yoga Basics - is specially designed for individuals who are interested in yoga but may not be comfortable in a traditional class setting because of their shape, size or ability. It is a welcoming, gentle yoga class where you will gain flexibility, strength and confidence while challenging yourself. In this class you will learn how to work with your body, not against it. This is not a weight-loss class, it is for anyone who is new to yoga, out of shape, or plus size. It strives to encourage mindfullness, build self-trust, and reconnect to your body, mind and spirit. Kripalu Yoga is a heart centered approach to the path of yoga. It is designed to develop the body, mind and spirit Moderate - These classes are designed for students who have had at least 6 mos. of Beginner or Gentle level yoga classes. We move beyond basic yogic breathwork (pranayama). There is longer holding of yoga postures (asanas). Postures may be linked together into a flow (example: sun salutation). There is more instruction about use of yoga props (yoga ties, blankets, bolsters, blocks). Moderate - Vigorous - A wide range of Hatha yoga poses for continuing students to inspire fullest potential of breath and alignment. Invigorating and challenging instuction provided for senior students. Vigorous Level - These classes are appropriate for students who have had a regular practice at the moderate level for at least 6 mos. There is instruction of advanced breathwork involving breath retention, vinyasa or flow of postures. Upper body strengthening postures are emphasized (10-30 pushup positions or inversions per class). Vinyasa-style - In Vinyasa style yoga, poses flow from one to another in conjunction with the breath. This, in turn, teaches us to cultivate an awareness that links each action to the next—on the mat and in our lives. Join us for one of our ten (10) Vinyasa-style class offerings each week, all taught by certified yoga teachers. Yin Yoga - is a passive practice which targets the deeper connective tissues in hips and lower back. The asanas focus on the areas of the body between the knees and the lower back, where most tension and emotion is carried. By opening these areas, Yin poses are believed to improve the flow of prana. A regular Yin practice can alleviate discomfort of sitting for extended durations and can aid in meditation practices. Yin Yoga is the sister to an active Yang based practice, such as vinyasa.
